[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Frequently, men are concerned about having a full “facelift” because of the recovery time or the time off work. You may not need that much of a procedure to get the results you want around your lower cheeks, jaw, chin, and neck.
There are minimally invasive ways to improve the face, particularly removing fat from the lower cheeks and under the chin in the neck. Many men think that this extra fat makes them look heavier or older than they are, or give them the look of having a “weak chin” or “weak jaw.”
SmartLipo (laser assisted liposuction) can help sculpt the lower cheeks and neck, particularly if there is a little too much fat in the lower face or under the jaw, making the jaw look too round or full. Liposculpting is precision removal of smaller pockets of fat, with resulting skin tightening and more masculine definition of the angle of the chin, jaw and middle neck.
Recovery time is less than in a facelift or necklift procedure. For the appropriate male patient, the results can look dramatic in reducing the look of aging or defining the jaw profile without the excess fat and fullness underneath.
What Can I Expect During A Cheek, Neck, Jaw SmartLipo/Liposculpting Procedure?
Typically, SmartLipo liposuction is done in the clinic with oral sedating medicine and local anesthesia injected in the area to be worked on. Small, hidden incisions are used to place the tumescent (saline-based) fluid that absorbs heat and fluffs up the fat, making it easier to remove. A laser cannula (small round tube) is inserted and the laser is used to break up fat, and to treat the underside of the skin to tighten it. Another hollow cannula is then placed to remove the broken-up fat. The incisions are closed with stitches and a compression band is placed to minimize swelling and optimize the resulting jaw and neck profile.
How Long Will It Take For Me to Recover?
The swelling can last from seven to ten days depending on the extent of the surgery and the post-operative care. Bruising may be present for five to ten days.
You will be allowed to walk and do some daily activities immediately after the surgery, but strenuous activity, cardio workouts and heavy lifting will be restarted under close supervision by Dr. Birchenough in two to four weeks after surgery depending on how you are healing.
While you will notice changes within three weeks, the final results, with the most definition, come at two to three months.
What Questions Should I Ask Dr. Birchenough?
- “I have this small area of fat and skin under my chin that ‘I got from my Dad.’ Can SmartLipo remove it easily?”
- “Can you just do SmartLipo on my neck instead of doing a necklift?”
- “Does having SmartLipo hurt much?”
