Dr. Shawn Birchenough is a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in breast surgery and aesthetics. Dr. Katherine Birchenough is only the fourth physician in South Carolina to be board-certified in functional medicine, and she is certified in peptide therapy, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, emergency medicine, and pediatrics. At OptimalSelf MD, we offer blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) for men and women in Greenville, Simpsonville, Greer, Spartanburg, and surrounding communities in South Carolina.

What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty surgery offers you the benefits of removing loose skin from the upper and lower eyelids that causes sagging. Often times, the skin and extra fat makes you look tired, even when you are well-rested. You can get a rough idea about how eyelid surgery may help you by standing in front of the mirror and very gently lifting the eyelid from just under the eyebrow. This represents upper eyelid surgery. Lower eyelid surgery is a bit more involved, so you can best see the results in our blepharoplasty before and after photos.

How Much Does Blepharoplasty Cost?

At OptimalSelf MD, we understand that you want to feel good about yourself, yet cost may be a primary consideration. We recommend that you schedule a consultation as a first step. As part of the consultation, we explain eyelid surgery cost, and payment can be made by cash, check, and credit card. We also work with CareCredit® and Alphaeon® to offer our patients financing options.

Who is a Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

Your eyes say a lot about you, and you want to send the message that you are friendly, happy, and content with your life. If people often tell you that you look tired, or if you notice that your eyes are not as vibrant as years ago, you may be a good candidate for eyelid surgery.

What Can I Expect During Blepharoplasty?

Dr. Shawn may recommend lower blepharoplasty, upper blepharoplasty, or both procedures. Lower blepharoplasty is performed by making an incision along the lower eyelash line, tightening the skin, and closing the incision. For upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Shawn makes an incision in the natural crease of the eyelid and removes any excess skin that has lost elasticity.

How Long Will It Take Me to Recover from Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty recovery takes about 10 days, and you will need to limit your activities. Your eyes will be swollen and bruised, so please arrange to have someone stay with you. The bruising and swelling from eyelid surgery recovery may last up to 14 days.
