WHAT ARE CHEMICAL PEELS?

A chemical face peel removes damaged skin from your face to reveal younger, healthier skin cells. Removing damaged layers of skin in this way rejuvenates your entire face while reducing common concerns, such as fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, acne scars, and dryness. Chemical peels are formulated for various levels of penetration into the skin, with light peels being good for general exfoliation and deeper peels being used for advanced wrinkles and other problems that originate in the lower layers of skin. Be sure to look at our chemical peel before and after photos to see the results.

HOW MUCH DOES A CHEMICAL PEEL COST?

At OptimalSelf MD, we understand that you want to feel good about yourself, yet cost may be a primary consideration. We recommend that you schedule a consultation as a first step. We charge a fee for an in-office consultation. As part of the consultation, we explain the price of your chemical peels, and payment can be made by cash, check, and credit card. We also work with CareCredit® and Alphaeon® to offer our patients financing options.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR CHEMICAL PEELS?

Chemical peel benefits are far-reaching when it comes to having healthy skin that helps you feel confident. The treatments are used for sun damage, acne breakouts, wrinkles, dull complexion, and uneven skin color, such as age spots. Our chemical peels are safe for most skin types, but pregnant women should postpone their peels until after they are done breastfeeding. If you want a skin rejuvenation treatment while you are pregnant or breastfeeding, Dr. Shawn will recommend one of our other aesthetic medical spa services, such as HydraFacial® or dermaplaning. If you have frequent breakouts, you know that any products that you use must maintain balanced skin. A chemical peel for acne or chemical peel for acne scars promotes good skin health to reduce your blemishes and breakouts.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING A CHEMICAL PEEL?

Dr. Shawn offers the Illuminize® Peel and Vitalize® Peel by SkinMedica®. The Illumize® Peel is formulated for flaws in the outer layer of skin, such as fine lines and a dull, drab complexion. The Vitalize® Peel goes a little deeper into the skin to help with acne, wrinkles, sun damage, and other issues. Both peels are administered with the same technique. The chemical solution is applied to clean skin and allowed to sit. A neutralizing solution is then applied to stop the peeling process. Your skin is cleaned again.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ME TO RECOVER FROM A CHEMICAL PEEL?

The Illuminize® and Vitalize® peels by SkinMedica® require no downtime. You may notice that your skin is flaking after the treatment, and this should only last about one week.
