There are many conditions that may benefit from IV Vitamin C therapy such as Lyme disease, bacterial infections, viral infections, pain after injury, and more. There is a great deal of research to support the use of IV Vitamin C. It is one of the best antiviral agents available, and it has the ability to neutralize and eliminate free radicals. Vitamin C will enhance host resistance, greatly augmenting the immune system’s ability to fight bacterial and viral infections. IVC users report that it lessens pain after injuries, helps the body heal faster, improves energy levels/fatigue, and enhances resiliency to infections like colds or flu.
In cancer patients, high-dose vitamin C is known to improve the response to cancer treatment. It alleviates some of the side effects of traditional chemotherapy and radiation, improves appetite and helps patients maintain a higher quality of life by improving energy and reducing nausea. Cancer researchers have discovered how high-dose vitamin C kills cancer cells. Vitamin C breaks down to generate hydrogen peroxide, which can damage tissue and DNA. Studies show that tumor cells with low levels of catalase enzyme activity are much less capable of removing hydrogen peroxide than normal cells, and are more susceptible to damage and death when they are exposed to high doses of vitamin C.
Dr. Katherine does not provide alternative cancer care and is not a cancer specialist. We ask that you work with your cancer care team in deciding what’s best for you. We offer this as an option to the Upstate community because we believe in the therapeutic value.
Dr. Katherine recommends that you discuss this adjunctive therapy with your oncologist because there are situations where it may not be appropriate, for example, if you are enrolled in a clinical trial it may not be permitted. At OSMD, we offer high-dose Vitamin C in 25, 50, 75, and 100 gram doses after doing screening bloodwork to rule out G6PD enzyme deficiency or kidney dysfunction. Our high-quality custom compounded ascorbic acid, which is derived from cassava, not corn, is also in the Myers cocktail in smaller amounts. Because high-dose Vitamin C can cause electrolyte shifts, we add calcium, magnesium, and potassium in order to prevent any side effects. We recommend having a meal and being well-hydrated prior to this infusion. Intravenous Vitamin C has been known to precipitate kidney stones in those with a history.
